本日の「予定日は？」いってみましょう～！！
お友達との会話です。
A: Are you, by any chance, pregnant?
B: Yes.
A: Oh, you are! That's just what I thought.
Congratulations!
B: Thank you.
A: When is the baby due?
B: Around mid February.
A: Do you know if it's a boy or a girl?
B: Not yet. Maybe the doctor will be able to tell us
at the next check up.
It depends on the baby's position on the scan.

■ by any chance ひょっとして、もしかして
このイディオムは基本的に疑問文で使います。
自分がもしかしてそうかな～と思ったことに関して、その内容が
本当に正しいのかどうか相手に尋ねるときに使います。
《例文》
Were you looking for me by any chance?
（もしかして、わたしのこと探していたの？）
Are those two by any chance related?
（あの二人ってひょっとして親戚？）
Are you in love with him, by any chance?
（もしかして彼に恋しているの？）
■ due （子どもが）生まれる予定だ
主語には、ダイアローグのように赤ちゃんをもってきたり、
出産する親をもってきたりすることができます。
《例文》
When are you due?
（出産の予定はいつですか）
Our baby is due in December.
（うちの赤ちゃんは１２月に生まれる予定です）
他に、「（人や物が）～することになっている、～するはずだ」や
「（人や乗り物が）（ある場所や時間に）到着することになっている」
という場合にも、この due を使います。
《例文》
The book is due out in this fall.
（その本は今秋に出る予定です）
The plane is due in New York at 15:00.
（飛行機は１５時にニューヨークに到着予定です）
She is due for promotion next year.
（彼女は来年昇進する見込みです）

～にかかっている

B: It depends on the traffic.
A: 帰りは何時？
B: 混み具合によるな。
His success here depends on effort and ability.

Everything depends upon what he does.
（すべては彼の出方次第だ）
